Enhanced Transition to Normalcy
Overcoming addiction and maintaining sobriety post-treatment is undeniably challenging. Many who have achieved it often recount a journey marked by trials and setbacks. Monarch Homes offer a crucial transitional stage, bridging the gap between the structured environment of a rehab facility and the complexities of everyday life. This step is particularly vital for those who find managing sobriety independently daunting. Opting for a well-established and credible recovery home like Monarch Homes can be a strategic move in sustaining sobriety.
Combatting Boredom and Isolation
Post-treatment life can be isolating for those recovering from substance abuse, particularly if their previous social circles are detrimental to their recovery journey. Isolation and idleness are potential risks for relapse in early recovery stages. Hence, integrating into a supportive community that understands these challenges is critical. Monarch Homes encourages active engagement, ensuring residents are not just free from negative influences but are also positively stimulated.
Structured Guidance and Constructive Living
Monarch Homes prioritize the enforcement of clear, beneficial rules. Governed by passionate and trained professionals, these homes balance the need for discipline with a more relaxed atmosphere compared to a treatment center. Residents engage in recovery programs, therapy, or IOPs (Intensive Outpatient Programs), and participate in home maintenance. This approach instills a sense of ownership and responsibility, contributing to a nurturing environment conducive to recovery.
Structured Guidance and Constructive Living
At Monarch Homes, the community comprises individuals in recovery and substance abuse treatment professionals. This ensures that residents are constantly surrounded by a support network attuned to their needs. Access to these resources is a pivotal aspect of the sober living experience, aiding residents in smoothly transitioning from treatment to a recovery-focused lifestyle.

At Monarch Homes, residents are typically screened for drugs and alcohol 2-4 times per month, with more frequent testing if necessary. Managers have the authority to conduct testing as needed and at their discretion.
We utilize various screening and testing protocols based on the circumstances, including 12-panel urine dip cards that test for substances such as fentanyl and kratom, as well as oral saliva swabs. Additionally, high-grade breathalyzers and ETG urine analysis are used for specific screening of alcohol consumption within the past 70-80 hours. For lab testing, we partner with Redwood Toxicology Laboratories to ensure accurate and reliable results.
At Monarch Homes, residents are responsible for their own food, although special celebrations for sobriety anniversaries may include cakes and pizzas. Each residence offers spacious kitchen areas equipped with modern amenities, including fully stocked kitchenware and a variety of tools and utensils for culinary needs. Additionally, ample refrigerator and freezer space is provided for residents to store their groceries and food items
Residents living in a Monarch Home are required to adhere to several rules and guidelines:
1. Sobriety: Maintaining sobriety and abstaining from alcohol and drug use is mandatory.
2. Attendance at Recovery Meetings: Active participation in 12-step meetings or other recovery-based self-help groups is expected.
3. Supportive Environment: Each home fosters a nurturing recovery atmosphere, promoting personal growth and peer support.
4. Active Engagement: Residents are expected to maintain a productive weekly routine and actively work on their recovery program.
5. Curfew Adherence: Following the set curfew promotes structured routines and personal responsibility.
6. Drug and Alcohol Testing: Routine and random testing ensures compliance with sobriety requirements.
7. Chores and Responsibilities: Residents are assigned household chores to maintain cleanliness and community.
8. Respect for Others: Mutual respect for fellow residents’ privacy, boundaries, and recovery journeys is essential.
9. Visitors and Guests: Relationships outside the home are important, but all guests must follow house guidelines.
10. Medication Monitoring: Managed and monitored by house managers to prevent misuse.
11. House Meetings: Mandatory meetings focus on sobriety, fostering cohesion and relatability among residents.
12. Financial Obligations: Fulfilling financial obligations on time is expected.

At Monarch Homes, we offer a unique shared room model compared to other SLEs limiting the number of residents in each home with most bedrooms designed as 2-person rooms on top of that, many homes also provide private rooms. By limiting the number of residents in each home, we provide approximately 40% more living space compared to other comparable Sober Living Environment (SLE) houses. This approach ensures residents enjoy increased privacy and a greater sense of personal space. Unlike other sober homes that maximize twin beds in bedrooms with 3, 4, or even 5 people, our focus on fewer residents per house significantly enhances the quality of living, promoting longer stays and increasing long-term success in recovery.
All Sacramento Monarch Homes are located under 1 mile from public transportation lines, if not closer. San Francisco Monarch Homes are walking distance (under 5 minutes) to SFMTA public transportation.
Yes, all Monarch Homes are conveniently located within 1-2 miles of shopping areas, ensuring easy access to grocery and other retail stores via public transportation, walking, or ride services. In San Francisco, our Monarch Homes are situated within walking distance of grocery stores, restaurants, theaters, and shops, providing residents with convenient access to daily necessities and amenities
Residents are asked to bring only their personal belongings/clothing, personal hygiene products, and food. All other needs and amenities: cleaning supplies, bedding, linens, kitchenware, and laundry, etc. are taken care of by Monarch management. Please be advised, no personal storage for large items, no furniture, blankets or bedding (unless new, out of package) will be allowed to enter the home. If you have further questions, please ask.
Residents at Monarch Homes sign a month-to-month service agreement, but it is recommended that they stay for a minimum of 90 days. Residents are encouraged to stay longer if they are making progress in their recovery, demonstrating a willingness to support new residents, and engaging in the community. Research consistently shows that individuals who continue their after-care programs and remain in an active sober living community after treatment have significantly higher chances of successful long-term recovery.
Incoming residents must have a minimum of 72 hours of sobriety and the ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening. Monarch Homes does not function as a detox facility. Prospective residents undergo an interview process and often tour the home with a house manager. In certain cases, individuals may require additional support and care, and may need to be enrolled in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or actively working with a therapist or mental health professional before being considered for residency. If you have any further inquiries, our staff is available to provide assistance in determining the appropriate level of care, placement in a home, or identifying other resources needed for a successful transition.
