Get Your Sh*t Together

Monarch Recovery Centers’

“Get Your Sh*t Together” real-talk recovery is an approach that cuts through the jargon and addresses recovery with raw, honest, and no-nonsense language

At Monarch Recovery, we are dedicated to providing an innovative and comprehensive approach to addiction recovery through our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in which group therapy is an essential component. Our IOP incorporates a range of evidence-based therapies to address the complex nature of addiction. Our group therapy is structured around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), all within the evidence-based framework of ‘My Life in Recovery by The Change Companies, Leading experts of the ASAM Criteria. Central to our treatment philosophy is the utilization of ACT Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. ACT uses mindfulness to help you become more psychologically flexible, which means being able to stay focused on your values and goals even when faced with difficult emotions or thoughts. This approach has proven particularly effective in addiction recovery. We’re not just helping you manage symptoms; we’re helping you transform your approach to life—letting go of destructive patterns and replacing them with actions that bring meaning and purpose.

This aligns well with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a therapeutic approach that emphasizes psychological flexibility, acceptance, and commitment to values-driven action. In ACT, clients are encouraged to accept difficult emotions and thoughts instead of avoiding or suppressing them, a core theme that mirrors the straightforward approach of Monarch Recovery Centers. The language of “Get Your Sh*t Together” reflects a commitment to facing difficult truths and learning to act in a way that is consistent with one’s values—an essential aspect of ACT.

In ACT, individuals are taught to observe their thoughts without judgment, accept the discomfort they might bring, and still act in alignment with their personal goals and values. This approach supports recovery by helping individuals recognize that they can’t control
everything—especially the negative thoughts and emotions that may arise—but they can control their actions in response to those experiences. Monarch’s recovery real-talk similarly emphasizes the importance of understanding and accepting personal flaws and difficulties, while focusing on how to move forward with intention and purpose, ultimately promoting personal growth and a more fulfilled life, consistent with the values central to ACT.

The approach of “Get Your Sh*t Together” and ACT both prioritize the importance of building self-awareness and learning to live authentically, even when the process is uncomfortable. In recovery, individuals need to acknowledge where they’ve been and who they are, but also move beyond those experiences and act in ways that reflect their true values, much as ACT encourages its participants to do. Together, they offer a powerful framework for change and resilience in the face of adversity.
